Hello everyone, my name is Gary Sanders.  I created this guide after living with and studying diabetes for close to ten years.  When I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes in 1997 I found out I had been living with the disease for close to 4 years prior.  I had been constantly sick, thirsty, and tired.   Every time I would go to the doctors office they would simply tell me I had the flu or was stressed out from school and work.

Finally after years and years one of my doctors said "Have you ever been tested for diabetes?"

I said  "No.. Why would I?  Nobody in my family has ever had diabetes."

My doctor explained that diabetes can happen to anyone, even if their family has no history and if there is no family history.  I was tested for diabetes and finally after four years of feeling indifferent about myself I was told I had been living with diabetes for the past four years.....
