Twenty years ago, I came to America with only $5, two shirts and one pair of pants in a small ragged suitcase; and I didn’t speak any English. To say the least, I was confused and desperate. I was broke financially and emotionally.

I remember being turned down for a job to pick up trash in the parking lot of a Mc Donald’s. The guy bluntly told me that he couldn’t’t hire me because I didn’t speak English. That was a big blow to my self-esteem. I was emotionally devastated!

I said to myself, "Man, how am I ever going to make it in a country where I can’t speak the language?" I was in tears. But I later made a conscious decision to do something about my situation. I took consistent action to position myself for success.

Today, I’m living life on a totally different level. I travel the country to keynote conferences and consult with Fortune 500 companies, such as AT&T, Bell South, Coke, Cox Enterprise and the list goes on. Ironically, I’ve had McDonalds Managers standing in line to get autographed copies of my book.

But here’s what you need to know: I’m not any smarter than you. I’m an ordinary guy with extraordinary determination. When I want something, I will single-mindedly focus on getting it. I will burn the midnight oil. I’m the kind of person who would rather die trying to climb the mountain than die wishing I had tried.
