Dear Singapore law enthusiast, Before you find out more details about the remaining mindmaps, why should you bother about it when you can actually study the material yourself. Yes, you’re right. You can always start from scatch. Compare someone who already have an idea of the chapter beforehand and someone who is learning the material from scratch, who has a higher chance of success? I believe you will pick the first person. There’s nothing wrong with reading the book. In fact it is essential to have the book. But wouldn’t the amount of time spend reading the book be drastically reduced when you know which salient points to focus on?If you’re smart, you’ve probably bought yourself a second-hand book, like myself, with plenty of highlighted notes. The question is after reading the chapter at one glance, does it give you a "Yes I got it!" or "What the hell is that sentence trying to convey?" response. If your first response is the latter, it means you’ve to reread that segment again and takes up your precious time. I must admit that books passed down from seniors, which are decorated with hand-scribbed notes do make my studying easy as compared to reading a brand new book. But these second-hand books are simply insufficient. I need an overview of the whole chapter to focus on the important points. Reading the book without an overview is equivalent to venturing into Amazon forest without a local Amazon trekking map. So are these mindmaps suppose to take over the textbook? The answer is NO! An Amazon forest map doesn’t cover everything you will expect in the Amazon forest. If the opposite is true, I can tell the whole world I cover the entire globe in one day just by reading the map. What these mindmaps does is To provide you a bird-eye view of Singapore Business Law and to highlight the important clauses that you should remember. Mindmaps also serves as a compliment to your Singapore Business Law textbook, much like health supplements aid in recovering your body after exercises besides eating your 3 meals/day. In assessing law cases, it is all about going through the rules to determine if the facts of the case fulfill the rules as stated in that ever-evovling lawbook. When in comes to exam, you only have a limited time to complete the paper. You need to know the concepts at your fingertips. If you, like myself, belong to the group of people who slam the ’panic-alarm’ button anytime, the more important it is for you to have a solid foundation on the concepts. Who am I and what qualifies me to tell you that this is what you need? Having ride through rough journey of business law, it can be a difficult subject when English is not your cup of tea. You don’t have to prick finger on the nail to know that it is painful when the seniors have already shared their experience. If you’re new to business law and you find it easy to study, do let me know. I want to interview you personally on video and broadcast live to business students on how you make studying business law like spreading peanut butter on bread. Being in the sales line for more than 2 years, I’ve sealed more than a hundred contracts. Never did I realise how important is the the word "consideration" in the contract before I study business law. Are the advertisements you saw on papers, legally binding or are they "invitations to treat"? After studying business law, it increases my awareness of the fine print. You never know one of these days, your client might question you on a particular term in the contract. Of course, you can say "For this, I’ll check it up and get back to you". Wouldn’t it be more impressive if you say, "Having studying business law from xxx university, this statement fall under the category of xxx and has the following legal consequences should anyone break the rules" If you’ve a mega-memory, you can quote the law cases to substantiate with explanation. Your client will be dumbfounded and you score extra points. If you’re in business, time is more important than the money. Time can be exchanged for money, but money cannot exchange for the time your already spent. Anything that shorten your time in getting the relevant knowledge you need in achieving your dream is always a worth considering for investment. In this era, information changes very fast. In order to appreciate such updated information, you need to have a solid grounding on the basic concepts, which have been fully conceptualized in the mindmaps. You do not want to lose your business just because you sign a contract that contains an exemption clause that is to your disadvantage. Laws changes, e.g. a new ruling might make your business run better. Even after you completed studying the course on business law, these mindmaps can serve as quick reference on certain clauses which you might have forgotten.
