Hi there, fellow guitarist.

Do you play guitar? Have you been stuck on a plateau? Feeling like your playing is stuck at one level? Made no progress for months, or years even? Frustrating, isn’t it. I know how you feel. It used to be that way for me too.A few years ago, I accidentally discovered a secret - the secret of how my mind ’really’ works when playing guitar.

I was doing a training course on NLP or "Neuro Linguistic Programming" to give it it’s posh title. On the course we learned about a technique called modelling - where you work out what thinking patterns someone does when they are performing a skill. This ’modelling technique’ had been applied to public speaking, spelling, phobia cures and all manner things - many of which are now becoming mainstream techniques thanks to the likes of Tony Robbins and Paul McKenna.

Someone else on the course modelled me playing guitar - playing fast and slow, and amazingly there was a different pattern...

As an experiment I tried swapping the thinking patterns around and my slow playing went to pieces but my speed playing became effortless.. how cool was that!

This surprised me so much that I started looking for someone else who had discovered this technique. To be blunt, I drew a complete blank. I searched newsgroups, googled everywhere and then some. I asked other NLP trainers. Searched high and low for over a year. No one had found this sneaky trick out before, as far as I could tell.

This got me thinking and even more about what other brain tricks I could use to improve my playing. It started me on a whole new life journey into how to improve all aspects of my playing and musicianship.

At that point I’d played guitar for over twenty five years, but nothing, absolutely nothing prepared me for the shock, when this simple change to the way I think made such an incredible difference to my playing.

I decided to start sharing this technique with other guitarists like you.First I started with some of my students. Then after a while I realised that I couldn’t teach everybody - there wasn’t enough of me to go round. I decided to put my brain trick findings down on paper. What started as simple idea eventually turned into a full book and I sat down and spent 6 months solid writing full time (in between teaching!) The result was not just some 20 page book stretched to 80 pages with lots of white space, pictures and fluff content, but a jam packed 200+ pages. Also I wanted to get fast delivery so I formatted it as an Adobe PDF file so almost anyone with a computer could download and read it.  [Note it is now actually a published physical book!].

Since I launched the book, from the hundreds of letters and emails I’ve had from beginners and more intermediate players, nearly all have been amazed at how easy and simple the techniques for changing your playing are..
