Once you know the secrets, with little effort, you too can build muscle quicker than you ever thought possible! However, please don’t make the same muscle building mistake I made. Since this gigantic bodybuilding mistake destroyed my results in the 1993 Mr. California, I now foolishly realize exactly why, and want you to never, EVER get hurt from the same heartbreaking mistakes. Allow me to show you what I mean by sharing a never told story about my heartbreaking preparation for the 1993 Mr. California Bodybuilding Contest.

After Training My Guts Out For Mr. California, You Can’t Imagine How Frustrated I Was When I Looked In The Mirror And It Seemed As Though Someone Popped Me With A Pin.

I was 25 years old and in my bodybuilding prime, and extremely pumped up for my next competition, Mr. California. I desperately tried to gain as much muscle as I possibly could while shedding as much fat as humanly possible all while training at the Mecca Of Bodybuilding, Gold’s Gym in Venice, California. Each day I would listen to Tom, John, Pete, and Phil. They each were telling me to do different things in order to maintain as much muscle as possible while dropping unwanted fat.

Tom said superset, triset, and train twice a day. Phil said do a lot of cardio, and lift heavy. Pete said, take steroids (which I didn’t). John said do a lot of isolation sets and at least reps to chisel the muscles. Well, even though I had an exercise physiology degree, these guys confused me, as I stood there not knowing what the hell to do. Which way is best to increase muscle, and decrease fat?

I Was Indeed Confused! Everyone Kept Telling Me To Do Something Different To Build Massive Muscle, and Burn Up Bodyfat. Talk About Confusion!

I thought long and hard, and tried to combined a little of what each of them said. It was a logical approach because they were all successful competitive bodybuilders.

My personality is that of a "work your tail off" and make things happen mentality. I knew if I trained as hard as humanly possible, I could win. I was so passionate about winning that I trained by butt off because I really wanted to pack on as much muscle mass as humanly possible, and to strip off all my excess bodyfat.

But I Trained Harder Than Everyone Else. Shouldn’t I Have Grown Like Crazy?

My training philosophy was one of longer, and harder, thus, outworking every other competitor. I desperately wanted to build muscle. After training like a mad man for 12 weeks, I looked into the mirror only to discover I lost lots of fat, but even more muscle. It was like someone took a pin and let the air out of me. I was extremely frustrated! How could I work harder than every other competitor, and shrink? This is suppose to be bodybuilding, not body shrinking!

One week before the contest I was so burned out that I could barely get out of bed. Things got even worse, as I injured my pec muscle, and had to figure out a way to pose while injured. What a disaster!
