The Chinese system finds that many conditions result from cold and damp and advise the use of cooked, warm foods to help balance the body’s energies to rekindle the digestive fire.

So how come all these health systems work? Researchers have discovered that certain foods support liver detoxification, the body’s main detox organ.

But why do you need to detox?

Many doctors argue that your body detoxifies every day so detox diets are not necessary. It’s perfectly true that your body has a very sophisticated detox system but they overlook the fact that everyone from newborn babies to elderly folk carry a surprising number of toxic chemicals in their bodies.

These toxic chemicals come from the food you eat, water you drink, air that you breathe, things that you put on your skin and products you use for cleaning your home. These foreign chemicals have overwhelmed your detox system. They clog up your body affecting your cells and joints.

This leads to altered and decreased function of:

* your immune system
* your heart and circulation system
* your glandular system

Many practitioners of Natural Medicine believe that the wide range of chronic symptoms and diseases suffered by so many people today stem from underlying toxicity.

When the quality of the food coming into your body is of higher quality than the tissues which your body is made of remarkable things start to happen. Your body starts to spring clean, removing the toxins stored in the tissues to make room for the superior materials which it uses to make new and healthier tissue.
