How Brainwave Entrainment Helps You Sleep

Brainwave entrainment is based on the tendency of brain waves to follow an external beat. Brainwaves synchronize with a sound in the same way that a tuning fork will ping when a note to which it is calibrated is played.

Sleep researchers have found that brainwave entrainment can be used to overcome insomnia.

"When the beat that your brain hears is at the same frequency as the natural frequency your brain produces during sleep, your brain begins to produce that frequency too. When your brain produces the frequency of sleep you fall asleep naturally." 

This means that if a sound is played that has the same rhythm as that produced by your brain when you are asleep, your brain will synchronize with that rhythm and you will be able to fall asleep.

The research found that as this brain synchronization occurred  other bodily processes controlled by the brain also began to slow down.

The heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, respiration rate and muscle tension all slowed down. The listener becomes very deeply relaxed and will fall asleep.
